Refining my storyboard (wines tail)

After this weeks meeting, I need to refine my storyboard. As J.K. Riki (2013) states, 'Storyboarding is all about telling a story with one image' therefore, I have decided to start refining my storyboard by analyzing where I need to improve for each panel, before drawing up the refined version. 'Every scene must serve a purpose' (Konowalchuk, 2011) in 'Wine Tail' each scene needs to show the process of winemaking, and more importantly show each crow is different, personality-wise. Each scene also needs to show apart of the secret crow society. In my scene, I have crows juicing grapes with their feet (a wine process), one crow juicing grapes passionately in a dancing fashion (personality), and then pulls in anther crow to dance. Grieb (2018) highlights the importance of character performance, as the characters are the story. Their poses shows emotions, relationships, and action. My character action in this shot is stepping on grapes. However, If ...
Refining my style frame/ Rules of good composition

Compositions have different types of balance, symmetrical and asymmetrical. The choices have different conventional representations; for example, balancing out the layout has connotations of being steady and secure, often used to connote formality (Lewis, 2014). The mood I would like to achieve is calm and cosy. Because of this, I need to restructure my Happy Places layout in the style frame to have symmetrical balance. I need to mirror the weight, large and visually more cumbersome objects evened out through the central line. As the rule of thirds, objects not only need to be balanced, but positioned to meet the points of the 3x3 grid, As Janney (2017) states, placing objects in these main points is 'aesthetically pleasing' to the audience. Which, I want my scene to be positively impactful, and peaceful to watch. Furthermore, its visually more pleasing to go-off centre rather than having objects centred, according to Ba...
Stye Frame 1 Happy Places

After making my style frame for Happy Places, I realized the style frame needs refining; I need to change the composition of the objects and work on the framing. When creating the style frame, my main focus was colour, texture and art style. However, I seemed to have neglected the rules of composition. Getting a second perspective helped me to notice an imbalance in the structure. To get harmony, I need to balance the heights of the objects, meeting the rule of third points, and draw the eyes to the center.

Week 2: Friday 17/01/20 This week I researched the colour of wine, (here is my slide of my research) I found that wines colour is affected by a variety of things: type of grape, environment, and age. There is more what can manipulate its colour. However, that detail is not vital for our animated short. I need to further adapt the environment as the team wants me to adjust the colour scheme. I also need to add-in a colour pallet for crows for the team to evaluate. We also had a meeting this week to discuss style frames. Analysing my style frame, I was asked to do flat colour (no shading or highlights), and have thicker lines; next week we will discuss the choice of colours for the crows, and if we will have light outer lines and darker insides or darker lines and more luminous fill. Here are two versions of my previous style frame from a potential storyboard: Furthermore, this week I met up with the producer of 'Happy Places' to discuss my additional role as '...

Today we had a tutorial on Adobe Audition and learnt about sound techniques. NOTES: Don't cut sounds, use fade points instead. Overlapping tracks creates a natural fade between tracks. Each manipulation of sound needs to be down subtly and slowly. Key an eye on levels, going above 0 is unacceptable, DP should be based on distribution: -Broadcast is normally -12 and has less variation. -Cinema mix is normally a large range of quiet and loud sounds. The more reverb= More distance/space Less reverb = Less space Keywords: Monophonic: One sound source/one voice/one element Polyphonic: Many sound sources/many voices/many elements Monophonic pitch adjusting changes the length of the sound sample, but does not affect its pitch. Reverb: What happens to sound as it moves around a space; makes sounds echo. Mix: How much reverb. Keys: Copy: Alt Key- Overlapping arrows, drag =copy Adjusting volume: Read- Enve...

After researching, both the denotation of red wines and the connotation of colour, I have made a final red wine colour pallet, however, need to further research and develop the colour pallet for Crows and the environment. Week 1: Friday 10/01/20 Pre-production and collaboration: The task This week meetings for each collaboration groups took place. Discussion of pipelines for 'Wines Tail', 'Happy Place', and 'Light Frogs' and roles have been made. My roles in each collaboration is 'animator' however, also pre-production and post-production of the animated scenes. For 'Wine Tail', I will be researching colour pallets, concept art, storyboarding, style frames and animating a scene of ten seconds until full render. For 'Light frogs' I will be animating two scenes; which I also have to do concept art, designs, storyboard, animatic, style frames and animate to a full render. I also have an extra role as 'assistant producer', and an informal role of helping with sound design later on in the project. For 'Happy Places', once again, I will be doing visual research, concept art, storyboarding, animatic, backgrounds, style frames, animatio...

DIARY: Today I researched at the impact of colour in our short film 'Wine's tale'. The two main themes in the film are crows and wine. Although it may be easy to say wine is red and crows are black, I want to further develop with research and use colour to our advantage. From my research, I found that wines hue gives clues to its age. As our story is about the process of making wine, it would be interesting to show how time has passed, especially through each different scene that is being animated by a person. Furthermore, the intensity of colour tells us about the climate of the wine, which would be great for setting an atmosphere and visually telling where the environment is.
